Special Report: Ste. Marie du Lac, Ironton MO
On Thursday, June 3, 2010, I went hiking with Jake and Mark. While taking a short cut (I'm not convinced it was...) we ran across a church, Ste. Marie du Lac, which is St. Mary of the Lake. So we stopped to look around. Amazingly enough, the door was open!!!

Make a Joyful Noise unto the Lord...
These are the guard geese and ducks. They made such a racket I was sure we were going to be noticed...

Our Lady in the Lake
With more of the guard geese

Main doorway.
This is the awesomest entry!

To Remember the Story of Noah and the Ark.
Detail on the Doorway

View From the Back Pew!

The Eighth Station: Jesus Meets the Holy Women
There was also what looked to be the Franciscan Crown on the walls.

Holy Spirit
I think the door might lead to a bapistry...

Shrine Area
Notice the Pieta in the Window

Our Lady of Guadalupe

Our Lady of Perpetual Help

I think this is St. Joseph.
Another window shows him carrying this staff, which could be lilies, his symbol.

I am the Immaculate Conception
It says so in the halo!

Presentation of Jesus in the Temple
I wasn't going to take a picture of this window, but
I really liked the multi-colored garb the priestguy is wearing.

Agony in the Garden
I'm not sure....

Assumption of Mary
Maybe it is the Queenship of Mary?

Pentecost

Mary Visits Elizabeth
I just like stars....

St. Meinrad Archabbey, Part 2
In Part 1, I had pictures of the Church at the St. Meinrad Archabbey posted. In Part 2, I will focus on the windows. And you get to play along as well! I can't id all of the saints in the windows, so you can help me out!
According to the brochure, the windows were made in Munich, Germany and were installed in 1908. The windows on the sides of the nave feature the Beatitudes. The top portion depicts a Benedictine saint displaying that virtue with the bottom part depicting the corresponding scene from the Old Testament. Then there are some words at the bottom, which are the full Beatitudes in Latin with the corresponding verse.
First the Rose Windows!

St. H...(??)
Bottom: Lamentations and Jeremiah I-4

Blessed Are Those That Hunger and Thirst for Justice

St. Meinrad Archabbey, St. Meinrad, IN Part 1
On May 15, 2010, I visited the St. Meinrad Archabbey in the middle of Indiana to meet some people. I didn't get there in time for Vespers. I did take many pictures! I've broken the visit up into 3 posts: this one with Church pictures, a second with the windows, and a third showing the Monte Cassino Shrine.
It was very beautiful and I didn't get to see everything. Many thanks to Cheryl and Tom who showed me around!
