Our Lady, Queen of Peace - House Springs

Hopes everyone had a fantastic Independence Day!

On July 4, 2010, I attended the 11:30 am Mass at Our Lady, Queen of Peace in House Springs.  I went anticipating pancakes, but because of the holiday, there were no pancakes.  :(  Our Lady, Queen of Peace is a small modern church.  In 2001, it was expanded and added too.  I'm not sure exactly what was added, although I suspect the sides were added.

The music for mass this morning was accompanied by a guitar, flute and either an organ or piano depending on the song.  The organ was pretty loud for the space.  I could feel the pews vibrating from the sound.
The Music:
Opening:  This Day God Gives Me (tune: Morning Has Broken)
Offertory:  Eternal Father Strong to Save (we practiced, well sort of, before Mass)
Communion:  Christ Be Our Light
Closing:  America the Beautiful

At the introduction the Penitential Rite, Father asked us to pray for those whose decisions affect their destiny.  (uhm...isn't that like everyone?)  The Gloria wasn't sung, but the Father sang the Preface which was kind of odd.

Father's homily seemed to me to be all over the map.  He started talking about how John Adams wrote a letter discussing Independence Day celebrations and that is why we have fireworks today.  The Church seems to think that the 14th Sunday in Ordinary Time is just as, if not more important than American Independence Day.  Father then went on to discuss the second reading and being happy that your name is in God's Ledger and how Jesus' death is the ultimate act of love (this seems to be a recurring homily theme...)  Father then started discussing the Declaration of Independence and inalienable rights (life, liberty, pursuit of happiness).  He then talked about the "long century" from 1776-1917 and government obligation.  It's how we build Jerusalem.  Father ended with the prayer for government written by the first bishop of the United States, Bishop Carroll.

Father used Eucharistic Prayer II and there were bells at the Consecration.  There was hand-holding at the Our Father.

Bell Tower
I don't think they ring.
I didn't see any way to make them ring and the clapper
looked tied down.

Our Lady, Queen of Peace was formerly known as St. Philomena.
When the calendar was rearranged following Vatican 2,
the parish was renamed.
One of these is the old St. Philomena and the other is St. Columbkille.

Jesus and Children
This is the first time I've seen Jesus with an Eskimo Child.

Uhm.  I saw this at the Zoo. Uhm.

Why! is there a Moon on the wall???
All through Mass I kept thinking about if this
was the correct phase for Good Friday.

Baptismal Fon
I know what you are thinking:
1.  It's a pile of rocks
2.  What mother with a baby in a snow white outfit would let baby get near this?
3.  Where's the water?
I know it is the baptismal font because of the brass shell on the ledge.
